In my early 30's I was quite a bit more active, squash once to twice a week, football once a week, ultimate frisbee another time per week. From that exercise, I was often sore, pulled muscles and what have you. I just kind of started to live with pain and thought it was normal.

By my late 30's and early 40's I stopped being that active, started doing more swimming and walking and really my muscles started to atrophy. This led to increased knee problems as arthritis set in. In 2021 and 2022 I would sometimes have to wear a leg brace as my legs, especially tmy right one, would painfully buckle when walking. Last year (2023), I went to physio to build up my leg muscles as I was fairly convinced I was going to have to have knee replacement surgery.

Then I started Abbie Dillon's low intensity circuit training class. While it didn't happen overnight, I now have far more muscle growth than I've had in years and I can walk, most of the time, pain-free for the first time in years. I'm not sayin that I don't feel any knee pain, I still can overdo it, but instead of taking lifts, I'm taking the stairs (often two at a time) and instead of my 'long run' being a 100 painful yards for the train, I recently ran for 4km straight.

Next Sunday, I'll be participating in a 5km run for Cancer Research, a feat that I certainly would not have been able to accomplish a year ago without Abbie's excellent guidance.
